Nico Cooper
PhD Candidate

I'm a fourth year PhD student in high energy theoretical physics, working with Prof. Al Shapere.

My research involves conformal field theory, the field that governs many phase transitions in statistical physics, and is a crucial ingredient in the AdS/CFT correspondence, which allows us to describe toy models of quantum gravity using conformal field theory in one dimension lower (known as the holographic principle).

Currently I am working on broadly understanding the emergence of theories that mimic quantum gravity in AdS3, despite the current absence of a complete holographic theory of pure gravity in this setting.

In the past, I have worked on projects involving integrable hierarchies, N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, asymptotic symmetries in flat space QED, and machine learning applied to particle physics at CERN.

Outside of physics, I have a lifelong love of theory, be it in math, jazz piano, gender theory, or social justice.
