Brad Plaster

Associate Dean for Research
Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor
Professor of Physics

As Associate Dean for Research (ADR) of the College of Arts and Sciences, I have responsibility for advancing the College's broad research portfolio spanning the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and natural and mathematical sciences. My overarching task is to (significantly) increase the College's external funding profile, through identifying strategic external funding opportunities for the College's ~450 faculty. I also serve as the College's point-of-contact to the Office of the Vice President for Research and to Sponsored Project Services.

My own research program in experimental nuclear physics is focused on tests of fundamental symmetries, and I have significant experience in leadership and management of complex projects at national laboratories. I have graduated 14 Ph.D. students as the primary advisor to date. In the classroom and lecture halls, I have taught a broad range of courses, from the 100- and 200-introductory level to the 600-level, and was honored to have been awarded the Provost's Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2018, and several College-level teaching awards prior to that. I previously served as Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 2021-2025, and Associate Chair from 2017-2021.
