The standard Model (SM) is incomplete and unable to explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. Many extensions of the SM predict new particles and interactions with additional CP-violating phases that can explain this imbalance. Electric dipole movements (EDMs) of fundamental particles, which are generated by CP-violating interactions, can be enhanced by many orders of magnitude by contributions from this new physics, to a magnitude within reach of current and planned experiments. A proposed search for the EDM of the proton in an electrostatic storage ring, with significant sensitivity to new physics, will be described.
