Eligibility for GAANN Fellowships

The "Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need" (GAANN) fellowships are available for PhD students with interests in pursuing physics-related careers in teaching and / or research including academic, industrial and governmental settings.   The program goals are to support a talented, diverse body of doctoral students and brings the best and brightest to Physics and Astronomy at UK.

Applying for GAANN Fellowships

To apply for a GAANN fellowships you must complete both the online Graduate School Admission Application at http://www.research.uky.edu/gs/prospectivestudents/admission.html and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. The deadline for completion of the Graduate School application forms for Fall 2016 admission is Feb 1, 2016. The deadline for completion of the FAFSA application form for Fall 2016 admission as a GAANN fellow is March 31, 2016.  More details on the application process and more information on our PhD program are available at http://pa.as.uky.edu/prospective-physics-astronomy-graduate-students. The FAFSA form will enable the University to determine the exact amount of your GAANN stipend.  When filling the form, make sure to indicate for the need determination to be sent to the University of Kentucky. The Federal School Code for the University of Kentucky is 001989. Once your FAFSA form is processed and a Student Aid Report (SAR) is received, please email a copy to Dr. Tim Gorringe, GAANN Project Director at gorringe@pa.uky.edu.
