An unconventional talk that can only be said in my home department
Ambrose Seo (Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Kentucky)

I would like to share my story with our undergraduate and graduate students in this colloquium. In 1999, when I was about to start my 7th semester in college, I asked myself “What can I do with my physics degree?” I thought that it was a very important question at that time, and I guess that some of you are also asking the same question now. However, be careful, this question can be misleading. I learned that there is another question we can ask. I will discuss what it is and how it has been a driving force for me to pursue my career in condensed matter physics. One of the recent research projects that I will discuss also illustrates why it is important to ask a good question.
